Can companies discriminate against tattoos?

By Zippia Team - Sep. 1, 2023

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 protects employees and job applicants from employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, and national origin, but does not yet prohibit discrimination based on tattoos or other forms of body art. Federal law allows employers to establish a dress code and grooming policies that may require employees to cover up their tattoos in the workplace.
