Do product owners make more than developers?

By Zippia Team - Nov. 10, 2021

No, product owners do not make more than developers. In fact, they earn a similar wage of around $105,000 a year. Both product owners and developers experience a similar range in earning from around $70,000 a year to $160,000 a year.

A product owner's median salary is $106,341 a year. The average additional cash compensation for a product owner is around $14,381 a year, making the average total compensation $120,722 a year.

Developers, on the other hand, earn a similar median salary of $107,510. The range, however, can go as high as $136,320 a year or as low as $82,430 a year. However, there are many different types of developers, from software to front-end to cloud, that can earn more or less depending on what they specialize in.

Developers, however, are growing in both salary and job volume. The Better Business Bureau projects the software development field will grow by about 22% by 2029, with 316,000 jobs added by that time. This is compared with an estimated 11% growth for those in computer occupations.
