Does the U.S. Secret Service drug test?

When adjudicating an applicant for a security clearance, any prior illegal drug activity, along with various considerations associated with that activity, will be weighed accordingly.

Drug history considerations:

• Cannabis: An applicant who has used or purchased cannabis may still be eligible for employment with the U.S. Secret Service. Eligibility will be based on the date of application and the amount of time since the last use or purchase.

• Steroids: An applicant who has used or purchased steroids may still be eligible for employment with the U.S. Secret Service. The date of application must be at least five from the last use or purchase of steroids. Applicants are ineligible for hire if they have ever sold, distributed, or manufactured steroids.

• Inhalants: An applicant who has used or purchased inhalants may still be eligible for employment with the U.S. Secret Service. The date of application must be at least five years from the last use of inhalants.

• Prescription or over-the-counter drugs: An applicant who has misused prescription or over-the-counter drugs may still be eligible for employment with the U.S. Secret Service. Eligibility will be based on the date of application and the amount of time since the last use or purchase.

• Hard drugs. (i.e., Ecstasy, Cocaine): An applicant who has used or purchased hard drugs may still be eligible for employment with the U.S. Secret Service. Eligibility will be based on the date of application and the amount of time since the last use or purchase.
