This question is about engineer resumes.
You write an engineering resume by highlighting your skills, experience, and accomplishments as an engineer. The profile (from the profile summary to work experience to skills section) should showcase to the hiring manager your value as an engineer.
There are some steps you can take before you get started to help improve your chances of landing the first interview. First, when deciding on what skills and accomplishments to focus on, use the job description as your guide. The goal of your resume is to demonstrate to a potential employer that you would excel in an engineering position if given a chance.
As any good engineer knows, numbers tell the truth. This is why we recommend using hard numbers throughout your resume when describing yourself as an engineer.
The first place to really wow the hiring manager is in writing a strong profile summary. A profile summary is a short, two- to four sentence "summary" of what qualifies you to be an engineer.
The profile summary should include information about the type of engineer you are, your years of experience, and one to two top skills and achievements. For example, "Energetic mechanical engineer with over nine years experience.
Seeking to use proven process and production design skills to advance manufacturing excellence. Increased production efficiency by 35% at Raytheon IADC."
In the work experience section, begin each entry with your job title, then add the company name underneath that, the dates worked, and three to six of your top achievements or responsibilities in bullet points.
When possible, focus on achievements over responsibility and quantify those achievements. For example, "Increased production quality, measured by 32% fewer defects, 25% fewer customer complaints/returns, and 30% less rework on all projects".
If you're just starting out in your career, then be sure to include your internship experience in the work experience. Also, the education section is a great place to showcase some of your skills and accomplishments. Include any group projects or core courses that you have taken.
Top skills to list on your resume for engineer include:
