How long does it take to become a certified scrum master?

By Zippia Team - Nov. 10, 2021

It takes 16 hours to complete the official scrum master course, along with work experience and passing the certification exam to become a certified scrum master. Most scrum masters are recommended to have adequate work experience as an apprentice under their belt before entering the certification program.

The certification program will then be taught by another certified scrum master. Once the certification course is taken and passed, the non-certified scrum master must pass the exam.

Exams are typically made up of 50 questions, of which the prospective scrum master must answer 75% of them correctly before receiving a passing grade for certification.

Once certified, a scrum master may continue along their career path, though it is recommended to engage in higher-tier responsibilities before becoming a scrum master mentor.
