How long does it take to become an Aide?

1. Patient Care -- Direct patient care includes glucose test administration, medication administration and injections, monitoring intake and output.

2. Personal Care -- Assumed responsibility for direct personal care of persons with developmental disabilities/ multiple sclerosis.

3. CPR -- Designed walking and return-to-run programs using Alter G. Worked in collaboration with Brown University medical students on CPR study.

4. Communication -- Develop and enhance functional skill development, communication, socialization, recreation and daily living skills for individuals with disabilities.

5. Customer Service -- Assist in day-to-day activities of residents and families of two retirement communities including food preparation, quality assurance and customer service.

Common Certifications For An Aide

The Medical Assistant certification is most common among Aides. This certification is awarded by the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians. This certification is great to have as it shows an improvement in your competency to perform your role. You can earn this certification at the beginning of your career, as it often doesn't require a minimum education level and work experience. To become a certified Aide with Medical Assistant, You need to pass the exam. Lucky you - certification doesn't require more than two years of work experience. Renew certification every 1 year.
