This question is about what a correction officer does.
Correctional officers work 40 hours per week. As correctional facilities need to have someone on duty at all times, correctional officers work shifts. These shifts can be 8 to 12 hours, depending on the facility. Typically, if a correctional officer works 8-hour shifts, they work 5 shifts a week, while 12-hour shifts are generally only 3 shifts a week.
Correctional officers often work weekends, and there is not a set work week for them. They do have rotating shifts so that while they work some weekends, there is still time for them to have weekends off, it is just a rotating schedule so everyone gets a turn.
