This question is about graphic designer resumes.
A graphic design CV should focus on an individual's academic and professional accomplishments and skills rather than just their work experience. A graphic design CV is important because it's an effective way to increase your chances of getting an interview.
Your graphic design CV should provide a roadmap of your journey in academia. The CV should be divided into clear sections highlighting your different project experiences. Be sure to focus heavily on your technical skills, as well as some key soft skills. Use the job description as your guide when deciding what skills and accomplishments to focus on.
To get started, just after your contact information, you should include an objective, which is a short statement covering you as a candidate. In no more than four sentences, highlight your education and your major academic achievements.
For example, "Enthusiastic, creative graphic designer with solid problem-solving skills. Excel at several tech tools, including Illustrator, Photoshop, and CorelDraw."
Next, provide information on your educational credentials. Be sure to include information such as Year of completion or expected completion (no starting dates), degree type, major and minors (if applicable), department and institution, honors and awards, dissertation/thesis title, and advisor.
If you have any relevant professional experience or a work portfolio, you should provide a section for that and include three to six bullet points per experience.
We recommend beginning with an action verb and using numerical values to represent your achievements whenever possible. For example, "Contributed to a customer site that won a 2016 Shopify Ecommerce Design Award."
After that, you should include any publications, blogs, social media, or other platforms your work is displayed on. It's also not a bad idea to have a work portfolio that samples your technical and creative expertise.
You can link to the portfolio under your professional experience and skills section. Additional but optional sections to include are Awards and Honors, Grants and Fellowships, Teaching Experience, or Conferences / Workshops.
