What degree do you need to be a production assistant?

By Zippia Team - Nov. 10, 2021

You do not need a degree to become a production assistant. While film school is common and even advantageous, it is not specifically required for a job. Film school does provide a background for production assistants in hands-on understanding of the production process.

Other paths for gaining background experience include gaining experience through projects such as working on their friends' short films, student and independent films, commercials, and college TV stations.

Additionally, there are PA workshops and boot camps that strive to prepare you with firsthand experience and familiarity with the kind of work expected on set, including the "Made in NY" PA Training Program (NYC) and P.A. Boot Camp (LA).
