What is a TOGAF certification?

This is a great certification for information technology (IT) professionals and architects. It demonstrates the ability to simplify complex technical practices and puts them in a position for fast career advancement.

TOGAF is a methodology and framework for developing and maintaining software. It gives an approach to these areas of software development:

• Design

• Implementation

• Planning

• Governing enterprise IT architecture

The main benefits of this systematic approach are:

The current standard is labeled as TOGAF 9.

TOGAF is based on four architecture domains. Here are the four areas of specialization in TOGAF:

• Business Architecture

  This specialization covers business strategies, governance, business processes, and organization.

• Data Architecture

  This domain is utilized to document the structure of physical and local data sets. It also documents any related data management resources.

• Applications Architecture

  Applications Architecture

• Technical Architecture

  This area of specialization is also referred to as technology or tech architecture. It is related to the software, hardware, and network infrastructure that is needed to support applications considered to be critical.

  The Open Group has three different exams pertaining to certification. Depending on the specific certification you are seeking, you may have to pass one or more of these tests:

  • TOGAF 9 Part 1

    This exam consists of 40 multiple-choice questions that you have one hour to answer. A passing score is 55% or higher, which equates to 22 or more correct answers out of 40.

    This exam is offered online with an accredited proctor or in person at Pearson VUE test centers. There are no prerequisites to take this exam. The Open Group has a reference self-study guide and an accredited training program to prepare.

  • TOGAF 9 Part 2

    The TOGAF 9 Part 2 test consists of eight complex scenario-based questions. It also uses gradient scoring for the best three answers per scenario-based question. This is an open-book exam, as the reference material is built into the exam itself.

    To pass the TOGAF 9 Part 2 test, you must complete it and score 60% or higher.

    This exam is offered online with an accredited training organization or in person at Pearson VUE test centers. The Open Group has an accredited training program to prepare for this exam.

  • Business Architecture Part 1

    This test consists of 30 multiple-choice questions that must be answered in 45 minutes.

    This exam is offered online with an accredited proctor or in person at Pearson VUE test centers. There are no prerequisites to take this exam. The Open Group has a reference self-study guide and an accredited training program to prepare.
