This question is about Shopify and Shopify jobs.
The hiring process at Shopify varies by position and usually takes several weeks from start to finish due to the background checks that are required.
There are three basic steps to the hiring process at Shopify:
Application: Prospective employees are encouraged to explore the Shopify careers webpage and get information on Shopify's business, culture, and available jobs.
You are also encouraged to read the "Who we are" page to get insight from current employees. This will give you a great idea of what it is like to be an employee with Shopify and can help you prepare for your interview steps.
Once an opportunity of interest has been identified, prospects are encouraged to apply via the Shopify career page. You will be prompted to create an online profile if you don't already have one. Once you have signed up, you will be able to submit your application.
There may be pre-screening text messages or assessments that will be sent to you, or you will be contacted by a member of the internal recruitment team regarding the next steps.
Please note that full COVID19 vaccination may be a condition of employment depending on the role and location of the job. If you have concerns, please discuss this with a member of the internal recruitment team.
Interview: After you submit your application, it will be reviewed by a member of the internal recruitment team. If your skills seem to be a match for the role, you will be contacted to set up a phone interview./p>
During the phone interview, you will discuss the role in greater detail and get to ask any questions you have regarding the role and/or the company. If you are still interested and the recruitment team feels that you are a good fit, you will move on to "the Life Story."
"The Life Story" is a one-hour, conversation-style interview with a recruiter. The best way to prep is to spend time thinking about experiences that have been formative to the point that you are at today. This can be as personal as you want it to be. Get technical if that's where your passions live.
After "the Life Story" interview, you will meet with three to five of your future co-workers for up to an hour each. This step is for you to learn more about the team that you will be working with and for you to learn more about them, so ask questions.
Use these interviews as an opportunity to showcase your personality, your skills, and why you are the perfect fit for the role, the team, and the company.
Typical interview questions included:
"Tell me something that is not on your resume."
"Why are you looking to leave your current position/company?"
"Describe a time you faced a challenge."
"Is there a question you wish we had asked but didn't?"
"What would you do differently at this job?'
Offer and Onboarding: If you are selected for the role, a member of the internal recruitment team will contact you to review the offer letter details, benefits, and more information on your new career at Shopify. If you are not selected, you will receive communication from a member of the Shopify team.
Once you have accepted an offer, you will be asked to complete forms and start the pre-onboarding process. You will also be required to submit for a background check. The internal recruitment team member will provide you with more detailed information on how to complete these steps.
Shopify employees outlined their tips for successfully going through the hiring process. These tips include:
Location: Shopify is digital by default, so unless a job is specifically marked as "not remote," it is a work-from-home position. Is this kind of position for you? Are you able to work core hours?
Resume: Have a well-designed resume with the right information in the right order:
Start with a summary
Align your responsibilities and qualifications to the job ad
Show clear evidence of the impact that you have had in your previous roles
Include relevant information outside of your day job (e.g., volunteer work)
Two-page maximum and focused only on the most recent roles
Triple-check for typos and grammatical errors. Demonstrate your attention to detail
Interviewing: Listen to the UX hiring at Shopify with Holly Fortier podcast to find out how to approach the interview process, especially "the Life Story" interview. Be open, honest, and inquisitive.
