This question is about writer and editor resumes.
A content writer should write the skills, experiences, and accomplishments that showcase their qualifications for the content writer position at hand on a resume. The key to writing a resume is to tell a story about yourself in one to two pages demonstrating why you would make an excellent content writer.
Knowing how to write an engaging piece of content that keeps the reader wanting more is your forte. However, knowing how to brand yourself in the same way on a resume is a whole different story.
It requires customizing your story to your audience, which in this case is the hiring manager. Before jumping in, be sure to use the job description as your guide when deciding which skills and accomplishments to focus on.
Every good story must begin somewhere. When it comes to your resume, this means your profile summary or objective. This is the first Introduction the hiring manager has of yourself and, more importantly, your writing.
In one to four sentences, you should describe who you are as a content writer and what you bring to the table. For example, "Experienced Content Writer highly skilled in researching, writing, and publishing compelling content. Results-driven and adept in driving the production of meaningful and original content for various media platforms and clients."
Suppose you have any freelance experience, include that under work experience and include three to six bullets describing your various achievements. If you do not have much work experience under your belt, then take advantage of the education section to highlight your skills and qualifications.
Finally, be sure to include customized skills. Include no more than ten hard skills (e.g., SEO, technical, social media) and soft skills (e.g., adaptability, creativity) that not only reflect your own abilities but also align with those mentioned in the job description.
