What should a mechanical engineer put on a resume?

This should give you a good idea of all your related and unrelated experiences in engineering. You can start to organize the experiences, moving relevant mechanical engineering experiences to the top. Depending on the amount of education and work experience, education will be at the top or bottom of the resume.

You can start writing down everything you did in your most relevant engineering-related roles. You should start by describing every duty and responsibility you took on in those positions, then analyze the accomplishments you achieved and how your role contributed to the company's success.

You should analyze your other positions relevant to the role you intend to apply for. If they have no direct relation, you can either remove them from the resume (if they are old) or only discuss them enough to draw out important skills and accomplishments.

Finally, you can create separate sections for relevant certifications and skills not covered in your work experience section. You should include mechanical engineering expertise, safety knowledge, leadership capabilities, and soft skills like communication and problem-solving.
