Who works under the VP of finance depends on the size and structure of the company, but it is typically either a director-level position or a manager-level position. Generally, in large financial services firms, the term vice president is an honorific earned by an individual, rather than attached to a specific position in the firm.
A vice president title often is conferred as a promotion in place, with the recipient retaining one's current job and responsibilities. Because so many management employees eventually become vice presidents, there typically is a hierarchy within this broad category.
