Grassland Habitat Wildlife Biologist
Non profit job in Tulsa, OK
Full-time Description
Title: Grassland Habitat Wildlife Biologist
Supervisor: Oaks and Prairies Joint Venture Coordinator
Salary: Estimated at $59,700*; Based on experience
Application Deadline: October 31, 2025
Position Summary:
Make a Difference for Birds, People, and Grasslands
Are you passionate about wildlife conservation, working outdoors, and connecting with people? Are you looking to launch your career in habitat management and be part of a collaborative conservation movement? We want to work with you!
This is a full-time position with American Bird Conservancy (ABC). American Bird Conservancy is a fast-growing, results-focused nonprofit seeking employees with an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to make a difference for birds and their habitats throughout the Americas. Inspired by the wonder of birds, ABC achieves lasting results for the bird species most in need while also benefiting human communities, biodiversity, and the planet's fragile climate.
American Bird Conservancy and the Oaks and Prairies Joint Venture are looking for a motivated Grassland Habitat Wildlife Biologist to join a growing team of conservation professionals delivering technical and financial assistance to landowners. You'll work alongside partners from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, Quail Forever, The Nature Conservancy, and others to bring high-quality bird habitat to life through private lands conservation programs.
This is an on-the-ground, relationship-building role that will help shape how grasslands are managed across the region - with real outcomes for birds like Northern Bobwhite and Grasshopper Sparrow.
This position serves the beautiful and ecologically rich North Central Oklahoma region, including Craig, Nowata, Osage, Pawnee, Noble, Payne, and Creek counties. The selected candidate is expected to live in or relocate to the project area to effectively work with local landowners and partners.
Why This Role Matters
Grasslands are among the most threatened ecosystems in North America. Your work will directly support the birds, pollinators, and communities that depend on these landscapes - and you'll be joining a fun, passionate team that knows how to get big things done by working together.
We encourage applicants from all backgrounds to apply, especially those from communities historically underrepresented in conservation. If you're excited about this work but unsure if you meet every qualification, we still want to hear from you. Training and mentorship will be part of your onboarding experience.
Primary Duties:
Connect with local landowners and promote grassland conservation through field visits, workshops, and personalized habitat plans
Lead the delivery of the Grassland Restoration Incentive Program (GRIP) in your area
Write site-specific conservation plans that support native grassland and early successional habitat for birds and other wildlife
Conduct field days and outreach events (at least two per year) in collaboration with partners
Provide technical guidance on management practices like prescribed fire, grazing, and invasive species control
Support habitat projects on public and private lands, including work on The Nature Conservancy's Pearl Jackson Preserve
Coordinate with agency and NGO partners across multiple counties to increase enrollment in habitat programs
Benefits:
American Bird Conservancy fosters a mission-driven, collaborative, and supportive workplace where staff are respected, empowered, and connected by a shared purpose. ABC offers strong benefits, a 35-hour work week, generous leave policies, and flexible, remote-friendly work arrangements that support a healthy work-life balance.
Excellent benefits package includes medical, dental, flexible spending accounts, and employer-matched retirement savings, flexible schedule, etc.
Paid vacation days (starting at 15 days annually and increasing to 20 days after 1 year of employment), paid holidays (including both US holidays and additional ABC holidays) and sick leave.
Lodging, meals, and transportation covered for work-related travel away from home where applicable.
Rental vehicle or personal mileage reimbursement where applicable.
To Apply:
Please apply online at Paylocity.
Please include your cover letter, resume and 3 references as a single Microsoft Word document or PDF. ONLY ONLINE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
If you have any difficulties uploading your resume, cover letter, and 3 references, then please send them as ONE document to ***************.
* ABC aligns our compensation with local market rates to ensure internal equity and fairness across our distributed workforce.
At American Bird Conservancy, we believe that a diversity of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills makes us more effective. We are committed to creating a respectful and inclusive work environment for all of our employees.
As an equal opportunity employer, ABC is committed to ensuring that employees and applicants for employment have equal opportunities regardless of race, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, age, religion, physical or mental disability, medical condition, veteran status, marital status, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or any other factor unrelated to the requirements of the position.
Requirements
A degree in wildlife management, natural resources, ecology, or a related field
At least one year of experience in habitat management, conservation programs, or private lands work
Strong communication skills - you're equally comfortable writing a plan, talking with a landowner, or giving a short presentation
