1917

In 1917, benefactors Asbury W. Lee and John Wrigley anonymously built the Children’s Home for the Society.

1931

Clearfield Fire Company Number One member J. Bruce Smith proposed the idea of Clearfield Fire Company Number One Ambulance Service in 1931.

1932

On June 16, 1932 Clearfield Fire Company Number One Ambulance service was pressed into action.

1942

In 1942 the service handled 221 calls covering 1,757 miles.

1950

In the early 1950’s, the last of the bonds had been sold and the agency bank balance was down to $75.

1970

1970 brought about what many members had thought to be the maximum number of calls they would see: 956 calls covering 20,000 miles.

1983

Shortly afterwards, there was a national movement to move children from orphanages to foster homes, and by 1983, the children in the home had been moved to other homes. (The agency built a small residence for special needs children, which was later taken on by Goodwill, then bought by Bethphage.)

1986

The first “official” adoption happened in 1986.

In 1986, the agency was approached by Partners With Youth of DuBois and asked to assume the program.

1990

By 1990, the trip volume grew so large the service found itself operating four ambulances and receiving more calls than the all-volunteer staff could handle.

1993

In early 1993 Clearfield Fire Company Number One made a major commitment to improving patient care by making Clearfield E.M.S. an Advanced Life Support ambulance service.

2001

A large renovation project in 2001 was designed to make the former Children’s Home building work more functionally as a Child Care Center.

2010

In 2010 Clearfield Fire Company number 1 merged with the Clearfield Fire Department.

In 2010, the agency celebrated its 120th anniversary.

2014

The average time from dispatch to on scene in 2014 was 9.99 minutes again below the rural standard of 20 minutes as set forth in the EMS Act.

2017

In 2017, the agency purchased an adjacent property at 223 Virginia Street and renovated it into office space to house its growing needs.
