In 2008, our founder Justin Brown attended a summit on “teacher free stores” and returned with a vision.
In February 2009, 74 tenth grade students at Schurr High School enrolled as the first students in the College Bound Today program.
In 2009, Storehouse for Teachers was born, a Board of Directors was formed, and 501(c)(3) status was obtained.
In May 2011, the organization officially completed its pilot program and became Southwestern Pennsylvania’s first teacher resource center distributing school and classroom supplies at no cost to students and teachers in need.
In 2015, Columbus, Indiana was among the first of 75 communities around the country to be selected as a Lumina Community Partnership for Attainment site.
In 2017, the Lumina Foundation designated the Community Education Coalition (CEC) of Columbus, Indiana and its largest regional initiative, the EcO Network of Southeast Indiana (Economic Opportunities through Education), as a Talent Hub along with 17 communities across America.
The award was presented as part of the ceremony dedicating The Republic Building in Columbus as the home of the IU J. Irwin Miller Architecture Program, launched Fall 2018.
In 2019, a network of communities in Southeast Indiana, including Columbus, Seymour, Batesville, Greensburg, North Vernon, and Rising Sun is designated an Indiana 21st Century Talent Region, becoming the second region to receive such a designation.
The Strada Education Network, a national nonprofit focused on improving pathways between education and employment, awarded a grant of nearly $1M to the Community Education Coalition (CEC) in 2019.
