About this Position
We are seeking a skilled and experienced roofer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a background in repairing windows, roofs and outdoor guttering.

Responsibilities include preventative maintenance to prevent and reduce leaks in University roofs. Inspect and repair roof flashing, gutters, and downspouts, and provide management with a written report of repairs needed for each building roof. Make repairs as needed to foam, single-ply, metal roofs, clay tile, built-up, coal tar, and asphalt roofs. Seal and waterproof windows and building exteriors. Inspect and clean roof surfaces while looking for defects, water-entry points, and damage. Tear off and replace built-up roofing and insulation on wood, metal, and concrete decks using the appropriate materials may be required.
Comfort using ladders, lifts, scaffolding, working at heights, sometimes on a pitched surface. Willingness to work outside in all weather, use of power tools, hand tools, and building materials. Must use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (gloves, safety glasses, etc.). These items are provided and not for personal use. This position regularly stands, bends, stoops, lifts above the shoulders, is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 100 pounds frequently and in excess of 100 pounds occasionally.
The employee in this position may be required to work overtime after 4 pm, shift work, and be on a rotating standby for emergencies during non-business hours, including when the university is closed and/or other events after 5 pm on weekdays, weekends, and holidays when management deems necessary. The ability to perform snow and ice removal tasks and respond at any time of the day or night when scheduled by management, regardless of weather, will be required; therefore, deeming you as essential personnel.

Required Qualifications
High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
Roofer I: One year of prior work experience.
Roofer II: Two years of prior work experience in the roofing or building trades.
Roofer III: Four years of work experience that includes commercial-type roofing, including EPDM, PVC, TPO, Modified, and clay tile roofing.
Post-secondary education may be substituted for experience; preference given to post-secondary education in the building/roofing trades.
Roof repair experience with built-up roof procedures, to include coal tar pitch and asphalt.
Experience with torch-down materials and modified bitumen
Experience with roof replacement using composition shingles, EPDM rubber, and single ply and other roll goods roof systems
Experience replacing and maintaining flashing, gutters, and downspouts. Maintain windows, waterproofing, and sealing building exteriors
Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:
Have before hire and maintain after hire, a valid driver's license. A valid driver's license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned.
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
Ability to lift, climb and maneuver 40-foot ladders.
Ability to become proficient in the use of "AiM" computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology.

DEPARTMENTAL INFORMATION
The Oklahoma City Utilities Department serves over 1.4 million residents within central Oklahoma. The Utilities Department, one of the largest City departments with over 800 employees, ten divisions, and an annual budget of $850 million, provides water, wastewater, and solid waste management services. It delivers an average of 100 million gallons of water every day through retail and wholesale service connections. It also has a 50-year contract with the federal government to operate and maintain water and wastewater facilities at Tinker Air Force Base. Line Maintenance is its largest division with over 225 employees, who service 4,000 miles of water pipe and 3,000 miles of sewer pipe, with 17,000 work orders annually. The Utilities Department has talented, committed staff, and engaged leadership and is seeking a forward-thinking, effective leader to be its next Collection and Distribution Crew Supervisor.
JOB SUMMARY
This position is located in the Line Maintenance Division of the Utilities Department within the City of Oklahoma City. Employees of this classification perform work of a specialized nature, involving installation, repair and maintenance of water distribution and/or wastewater collection systems. The skills and knowledge required must be acquired prior to assuming the position. The supervisor is responsible over the worksite and the crew assigned to the worksite. Essential job functions include: supervising a crew engaged in various types of water/wastewater system repair and construction; ensuring manpower, vehicles and equipment are safely transported to the jobsite; confirming work is performed according to established safety and quality standards; and using sound judgment regarding public and worker safety at all time but especially when work is being performed in high traffic areas and around other utilities. Additional job functions include training employees; assigning and evaluating work, retrieving and inputting data from/into computerized systems; completing work orders, safety reports and other work-related daily reports. The work often includes frequent contact with the public, outside utility agencies, contractors and other City personnel. Work assignments are given in both oral and written form depending on the work situation. The work products are reviewed through customer satisfaction, daily reports and periodic inspection by a supervisor.

POSITION DESIGNATION

DEPARTMENTAL INFORMATION
The Oklahoma City Utilities Department serves over 1.4 million residents within central Oklahoma. The Utilities Department, one of the largest City departments with over 800 employees, ten divisions, and an annual budget of $850 million, provides water, wastewater, and solid waste management services. It delivers an average of 100 million gallons of water every day through retail and wholesale service connections. It also has a 50-year contract with the federal government to operate and maintain water and wastewater facilities at Tinker Air Force Base. Line Maintenance is its largest division with over 225 employees, who service 4,000 miles of water pipe and 3,000 miles of sewer pipe, with 17,000 work orders annually. The Utilities Department has talented, committed staff, and engaged leadership and is seeking a forward-thinking, effective leader to be its next Collection and Distribution Crew Supervisor.
JOB SUMMARY
This position is located in the Line Maintenance Division of the Utilities Department within the City of Oklahoma City. Employees of this classification perform work of a specialized nature, involving installation, repair and maintenance of water distribution and/or wastewater collection systems. The skills and knowledge required must be acquired prior to assuming the position. The supervisor is responsible over the worksite and the crew assigned to the worksite. Essential job functions include: supervising a crew engaged in various types of water/wastewater system repair and construction; ensuring manpower, vehicles and equipment are safely transported to the jobsite; confirming work is performed according to established safety and quality standards; and using sound judgment regarding public and worker safety at all time but especially when work is being performed in high traffic areas and around other utilities. Additional job functions include training employees; assigning and evaluating work, retrieving and inputting data from/into computerized systems; completing work orders, safety reports and other work-related daily reports. The work often includes frequent contact with the public, outside utility agencies, contractors and other City personnel. Work assignments are given in both oral and written form depending on the work situation. The work products are reviewed through customer satisfaction, daily reports and periodic inspection by a supervisor.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of reviewing water and wastewater construction plans.

Position may be assigned to work a weekend shift.

Essential Functions:
Supervises a line clearance crew and is responsible for planning daily work for crew.
Assigns work for individual crew members and directs crew in performing work according to accepted line clearance practices. Must be capable of adjusting to field requirements and take independent action without close supervision.
Recognizes poisonous plants and uses proper safeguard against them.
Enforces safe work practices, as experience, judgment, company policy, and OSHA specifies and conducts safety training in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Obtains oral or written permission from property owners to trim or remove trees and apply herbicides. Arranges with customer or property owner ability to obtain access, advise them of interruption and explain the work that needs to be done. Repairs minor damages if they occur. Keeps accurate records, timesheets and reports related to the performance of the crew. Furnishes supervisor and Utility representative with reports of orders completed, units of work completed, crew time and distribution, etc.
Receives and interprets tree trimming, removal and chemical application orders initiated by General Foreperson or Utility, involving an understanding of drawings and symbols, representing types of power lines, voltages, and line equipment.
Responsible for the conduct of safety training of assigned personnel in accordance with good safety training procedures, in addition to and in coordination with client company policies and procedures.
Responsible for being mindful of controlling crew costs including effective use of manpower, proper work methods, amount of trimming, and operation of equipment.
Considers inclement weather conditions and determines when to start or stop work, dependent upon its effect on employees and the nature of the work.
Safeguards employees and public from hazards in and around work area. Cooperates with customer, police, and fire departments when blocking street or driveways. Sets up barriers, warning signs, flags, etc. to protect employees as well as the public. Trained to perform tree and bucket rescue. Follows and enforces safe work practices, rules and policies.
Responsible for truck inspection, proper working conditions, as well as necessary repairs to tools, trucks and other work equipment. Requests major repairs or replacements when required. Maintains good housekeeping on truck and at worksite locations.
In emergency situations, determines proper action to be taken to eliminate hazards to life and property and the trimming/removal of trees, if necessary, to expedite the restoration of service by calling out crew personnel and performing other activities connected with emergency work.
Trims and/or removes trees by climbing with the aid of a ladder, safety belt, climbing line, powered trimmer lift truck, or works from the ground using saws/pruners. Will cut branches or trunk sections and drops or lowers them to the ground with lines.
Uses appropriate tools, will fell trees or trimmed trunks and split them into manageable pieces.
Sprays stumps and brush with hand-spraying equipment to prevent further growth.
Loads and unloads trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris and/or feeds brush into a wood chipper.
Repairs slight damage to lawns, fences, and walks caused by tree trimming.
Services gasoline, air, and hand-powered tools and other equipment.
Relays hand-signals, directs traffic, drives and operates trucks and equipment as assigned, and keeps trucks and work area clear and orderly.
Trains new employees on proper procedures.
