Job Description:
Maintains standards of professional paramedic practice for patients with consideration of their specific age needs. Provides leadership by working cooperatively with other health care professionals in accordance with ORC 4765.36 which states: “In a hospital, an emergency medical technician-basic, emergency medical technician-intermediate, or emergency medical technician-paramedic may perform emergency medical services if the services are performed in accordance with both of the following conditions:
(A) Only in the hospital's emergency department or while moving a patient between the emergency department and another part of the hospital;
(B) Only under the direction and supervision of one of the following:
(1) A physician;
(2) A physician assistant designated by a physician;
(3) A registered nurse designated by a physician.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education / Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
1. Current paramedic licensure in the State of Ohio.
2. Specialty certification preferred. BLS and ALCS required. PALS and ITLS preferred.
3. Must be willing to rotate shifts and units.
4. Physical requirements:
a. visual acuity of 20/20 or corrected to 20/20 including color vision when applicable;
b. ability to hear (with or without aides)
c. ability to orally communicate
d. good manual dexterity
e. ability to push, pull, roll, and transfer/lift 50 pounds occasionally
f. ability to stand, walk frequently
g. ability to bend, reach, stoop, kneel frequently; and
h. ability to perform CPR

General Summary:
The EMT-B's job function is to transport sick and injured persons by ambulance in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort. They are to administer Basic and Advanced Life Support level pre-hospital care and treatment within the limits defined by the State of Ohio law and North Central EMS' Medical Director.
The paramedic is an extension of the EMT and must initially and continually, utilize basic EMT level skills on every call he or she is involved in.
Essential Functions:
* Develops, directs, delegates, and participates in the plan of both BLS and ALS patient care in the pre-hospital setting utilizing both written medical guidelines as established by NCEMS' Medical Director and direct medical control with hospital emergency departments via radio and/or telephone communications.
* Recognizes the need for and administers Advanced Life Support procedures when the patient condition warrants.
* Is proficient in Basic and Advanced Life Support levels of patient care, and able to integrate each effectively to produce optimal patient care.
* Provide care that is observant and responsive to patient needs as they arise.
* Assures the presence and functionality of all ALS level equipment and its replacement and restocking if used.
* Assumes responsibility for proper documentation of ALS level of care when instituted
* Adheres to the shift change policy/checklist at the beginning and end of every shift.
* Assumes responsibility for proper disposal and/or cleaning of contaminated material in compliance with State rules and regulations.
