Key Responsibilities:
Establish and execute the long-term engineering strategy to support Hill & Smith's strategic growth initiatives.
Define engineering priorities, resource needs, and organizational capabilities required to scale product development and operational excellence.
Serve as a key engineering advisor to senior leadership, contributing to business planning and portfolio strategy.
Lead, mentor, and develop a multi-disciplinary team of mechanical and electrical engineers, project leads, and technical specialists.
Oversee the full engineering lifecycle-from concept through commercialization-ensuring projects meet scope, cost, quality, and timeline expectations.
Drive innovation by introducing new technologies, materials, and design methodologies to enhance product performance, safety, manufacturability, and sustainability.
Partner with manufacturing teams to proactively address design-related issues and support continuous improvement, cost reduction, and quality initiatives.
Ensure all product designs meet applicable DOT, ASTM, AASHTO, and other regulatory and industry standards.
Build a culture of learning, innovation, accountability, and technical excellence across the engineering organization.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering (or related field).
10+ years of progressive engineering experience, including 5+ years leading engineering teams or engineering departments.
Proven success leading product development, structural design, and testing in a manufacturing environment.
Strong understanding of metal fabrication, welding, structural analysis, prototyping, and validation testing.
Advanced proficiency in CAD (e.g., SolidWorks), FEA tools, engineering documentation, and product data management.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects and prioritize resources effectively.
Exceptional communication, cross-functional collaboration, and organizational leadership skills.
Preferred:
Experience with transportation safety products or DOT-regulated equipment.
Exposure to Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles.

Position: Project Manager
Location: Columbus, OH (in office)
We offer the opportunity to work in a team-oriented, multi-discipline environment to produce exciting, diverse projects using state-of-the-art software. Our Project Managers oversee all aspects of our structural design projects and are responsible for their successful execution and delivery. They are expected to have sufficient project experience, technical expertise and communications skills to represent American Structurepoint in a positive and effective manner with clients, governmental agencies and the general public.
They are expected to set an example for production staff by properly complying with all company and group policies and procedures. Project Managers work under the direction and mentoring of Structural Project Directors and the Group Leader.
Responsibilities
Directing the work/mentoring production staff for maximum productivity & profitability
Meeting with existing and prospective clients to coordinate new project opportunities
Creating and nurturing client relationships focused on developing profitable repeat work
Developing fee proposals, including preparation of scopes of work, determination of structural fees, coordination of marketing/resume materials and coordination of contracts
Developing project plans and budgets including all staffing and resource needs
Planning and conducting internal and external project meetings
Taking full ownership of, and managing all aspects of, projects from conception to completion
Preparing preliminary designs and selecting appropriate structural systems
Troubleshooting analysis problems
Monitoring projects to confirm milestones, deadlines, and profitability targets are met
Monitoring scope creep to determine if additional services are warranted
Controlling revenue recognition and billing in accounting software for assigned projects
Performing quality control and constructability reviews
Completing project closeout requirements (financial, archiving, marketing, lessons learned, etc.)
Monitoring staffing/resource needs and reporting up to Group Leader
Collaborating with other Project Managers to manage workload distribution and project resources to ensure appropriate staffing of projects
Recruiting and interviewing job candidates
Providing regular performance feedback and coordinating and administering annual performance reviews of Staff engineers and Project engineers
Promoting ASI services and reputation in local markets by participating in appropriate industry, professional, and community organizations.

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or above in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred)
Passed either the NCEES Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam or the NCEES Structural Engineering (SE) exam
Possess engineering licensure in at least one state with ability to get reciprocity in Indiana within 6 months
Minimum of 7 years of relative experience (Up to 1 year of an advanced degree can be considered part of the relative experience)

Supervise project team for the development of plans for bridges and other transportation related structures.
Prepare contract bid documents including final plans, specifications, and cost estimates for structural projects.
Visit project sites to perform bridge inspections, verify existing conditions during design, and provide engineering support during construction.
Coordinate with other disciplines within the transportation department including but not limited to survey, roadway, drainage, and planning.

10-15 years of experience in bridge design
Experience preparing structure plans for DOT projects.
Experience using the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Manual
Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
Valid driver's license
FHWA 2 Week Bridge Inspection Course or one week course for Professional Engineers
Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
Bridge inspection experience
Experience with Bridge Inspection Reference Manual

The Sr. Manager, Electrical Engineering will be responsible for defining, standardizing, and advancing the methodologies, tools, and workflows used in the design and development of power electronics and electrical systems across Core Engineering. The position reports to the Senior Director, Core Engineering Services and collaborates closely with product development, simulation, compliance, and manufacturing engineering teams.

Responsibilities:
* Lead the selection, deployment, and governance of electrical design tools and platforms (e.g., ECAD, simulation, schematic capture, wiring harness design).
* Define and maintain global standards for electrical system design processes, documentation, and validation workflows.
* Partner with product teams to ensure tools and processes align with evolving technology and business needs.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design efficiency, accuracy, and cross-functional collaboration.
