Schedule
This is a full-time position and is normally assigned to weekdays. This schedule may require three evenings per week. DBH reserves the right to require overtime, weekend work, and/or assignment to evening or night shifts, depending upon operational need, some in and out of state travel may be required.
The proposed schedule for this position is:
Monday 8:00 am to 2:00 pm
Wednesday & Thursday 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm
Work schedules at DBH are established to meet the needs of our clients and the agency. Program Supervisors, with the approval of Program Directors, determine the specific schedules for their assigned departments and have the authority to ask employees to work a different shift and/or in a different location on a short-term or permanent basis to meet the departments' needs.
Required Qualifications
Experience
The FPSS certification requires that an individual be a parent or other family member of a child or youth who has struggled with a serious emotional disturbance and has received mental health and/or substance use treatment and support services.
Experience working with youth/young adults and families.
Education
High school diploma or GED is required.
Bachelor's degree in related field is highly preferred but not required.
Certification/Licensure
The successful candidate must be certified as a Family Peer SupportSpecialist (FPSS) by the Office of Substance Use and Mental Health. Click here for details on obtaining FPSS certification.
Certification as a FPSS must be completed as soon as possible, but no later than 6 months after hire.

Position Summary
Provide crisis counseling, advocacy, and culturally competent case management services for individuals and families at the Salt Lake Area Family Justice Center (SLAFJC) walk-in center at the YWCA Utah.
Essential Job Functions
Provide crisis counseling, advocacy, and coaching to adults and families in crisis due to domestic and/or sexual violence, stalking, and elder abuse.
Monitor campus security in collaboration with all staff, to protect and ensure safety and well-being of program participants, staff, and visitors.
Support program participants in achieving their self-determined program goals through empathic listening and presence, providing individualized case management and referrals to SLAFJC community partners, supportive services, and resources in the community.
Establish and secure case files to uphold client confidentiality.
Conduct initial intake assessments, including performing risk assessment, needs assessment, safety planning, and goal setting. Provide clear information on risk to participants and assist in creating comprehensive safety plans.
Support each program participant in achieving their self-determined plan with courteous, timely and meaningful help, including:
Provide information, psychoeducation, and referrals and provide/arrange translation and interpretation as necessary.
Assist participants in directly connecting with legal, law enforcement, employment, mental health, healthcare, shelter, and other resources as needed. Advocate for equitable access and assist participants in navigating barriers.

Counseling & Crisis Response - Provide individual/group trauma therapy, crisis counseling, and coordinate with campus mental health services.
Advocacy & Case Management - Assist survivors through university, Title IX, and criminal justice processes, including attending meetings and providing case management.
Resource Connection - Maintain and share survivor resources; provide referrals to medical, counseling, academic, financial, Title IX, and law enforcement services.
Outreach & Education - Plan and implement awareness and outreach activities on and off campus.
Serve on Campus Committees and Collaborate with Off-Campus Organizations:
Provide input on ongoing development of campus policies and procedures related to sexual assault in accordance with the Clery Act, Title IX and other federal and state guidelines, as assigned by supervisor
Collaborate with Campus Title IX Coordinator and relevant off-campus organizations to provide coordinated response to sexual assault, as assigned by supervisor
Stay Current on Issues and Trends in Survivor Advocacy and Title IX:
Receive training and education on at least an annual basis
Attend training workshops and conferences, as travel budgets allow, to stay informed and current on emerging best practices related to campus response to sexual assault
What qualifies you for this role:
Required
A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
Minimum education requirement: Master's degree in mental health counseling or related field with appropriate licensure
Minimum experience requirement: three years of therapy/counseling, including two years providing direct service and crisis intervention to survivors of sexual assault
Utah State Certified Survivor Advocate (40 hour trained), Certified Sexual Assault Crisis Counselor or equivalent or willingness to receive training
Preferred
Knowledge of available campus, community and national resources and services for survivors of sexual assault
Knowledge of current literature related to campus sexual misconduct and federal regulations on campus sexual assault such as Title IX regulations and the Clery Act
