Works under general supervision.
• Responsible for screening telephone referrals. • Performs psychosocial evaluation and assessment of mental health service needs of identified patients and their families through professional knowledge, skills of observation and interviewing. • Develops and implements short-term service plans for patients, in conjunction with other members of the Program. • Provides counseling, care management and appropriate referrals for long term and supplemental treatment. • Prepares case histories and prepares and maintains case records, in accordance with the Program record-keeping mechanism. • Encourages resistant clients to accept mental health services through interventions with clients and/or family members and friends concerned with the client's welfare. • Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings and case conferences of the Program. • Provides referral and provision of information to appropriate long-term mental health services and social services and social services providers, or long-term residential facilities. • Coordinates and follows up on linkages made between clients and other service agencies and mental health providers to ensure continuity of care. • Liaison with, and consultation to, community agencies. • Provides outreach services as part of the Program to mentally ill individuals in the community who are experiencing, or are at risk of, psychosocial difficulties and require mental health intervention in their home. • Serves as resource person to the program and other components of the Agency, when requested, pertaining to psychiatric nursing. • Participates with the team and other appropriate Agency staff in the development and implementation of an in-service training component. • Assists and collaborates with the Program Coordinator in the overall functioning of the service. • Assumes Program Coordinator's functions in his/her absence, as requested. • Participates in community programs and education, as requested. • Contributes to the formulation of clinical and administrative policies and procedures and the preparation of policy and procedure manuals, as required. • May provide clinical supervision for Mental Health Technician, graduate Social Worker students or junior staff Social Workers. • Monitors mental status of Senior Citizens accepted to the program. • For Mobile Crisis - Adult (4711) FLOAT Team Only: Assists other Mobile Crisis Agencies across the five boroughs with 24-hour notice. This means you'll be part of a flexible response team, ready to provide crisis intervention and psychosocial support wherever needed in NYC. This requires adaptability and strong coordination skills. • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Founded in 1997, The Bronx Defenders is a public defender nonprofit that has developed a nationally recognized model of representation called holistic defense, which provides people with teams of lawyers, social workers, and advocates to defend them zealously in court as well as to address the underlying drivers and enmeshed penalties of legal system involvement.
Since opening our doors, we have grown into an organization of more than 400 staff members defending nearly 20,000 New Yorkers each year in criminal, family, civil, and immigration proceedings who face incarceration, family separation, eviction, and deportation, among other devastating consequences.

The Administration Department assists our dedicated staff of attorneys, advocates and social workers to maximize efficiency within the organization. Responsibilities
Reporting to the Managing Director of Administration, the Interpreter/Translator will work with attorneys, advocates and community members to provide interpretation and translation services and facilitate communication between clients and their legal defense teams. Transcribe, interpret, and translate conversations in-person, via video, and phone

The Language Services Unit provides interpretation, transcription, and translation services for witnesses, victims, and defendants at DANY for the investigation and prosecution of criminal cases. Under supervision, the Spanish Interpreter is responsible for interpreting and translating bi-directionally between Spanish and English and producing accurate transcriptions/translations.

Nature of Work
* This position is a professional counseling position at the Edmund L. Thomas Adolescent Center within the Erie County Office of Children and Youth and reports directly to the Program Director. Juvenile Counselors accept work assignments in the Detention Center Program or the Dependent Shelter Program. The primary responsibility of the Juvenile Counselor is to provide for the care, supervision and security of the adolescents and children residing at the Center.
Duties & Responsibilities
* Ability to obtain certification in Safe Crisis Management (SCM), a mandated training aimed at equipping staff with knowledge and skills that will allow them to prevent, de-escalate and safely intervene (physically and non-physically) with individuals who demonstrate extremely disruptive behaviors that may become or are harmful to themselves or others.
* Conducts interviews to gather information essential to the assessment and intervention for each individual child. Includes contacts with the child, family members and collateral contacts such as the Children and Youth caseworkers, Juvenile Probation officers, mental health professionals and various other clinicians pertinent to case management.
* Knowledge of Pennsylvania Department of Human Services 3800 regulations. Ensure that programmatic standards meet or exceed these expectations.
* Provides counseling to residents and their families to aid them in achieving a more satisfactory adjustment to their program situations. Monitors family visitation.
* Monitors special needs of the residents. Assesses physical stamina, strength and coordination of the child. Monitors for problems common and/or unique to disturbed adolescents and children, such as insomnia, enuresis, encopresis, anorexia, bulimia, etc. Arrange for emergency medical care when necessary. May include direct provision of CPR and First Aid as indicated.
* Participates in daily outdoor and indoor physical fitness programs for the residents. Conducts individual and group counseling. Prepares group discussion topics and procedures. Maintains positive community involvement and relationships.
