This position is responsible for providing high-quality interpreting services for Deaf faculty members in classroom settings, faculty meetings, and other university-related activities. Coordinate/supervise on-campus interpreting events for students, including but not limited to Chapel, theater events, and guest-speaking events. Mentor students for theater events, including but not limited to plays, musicals, etc. Coordinate the Community Service & Engagement requirements for students (creative events, finding events and opportunities, charting students' progress, etc.). Provide academic advising to students. Meet with prospective students and oversee proficiency skills tests. Oversee the aesthetics of lab rooms. Monitor students' attendance for ASL and Interpreting labs. Manage student workers. Approve student worker timecards. Create bulletin boards/postings in the department. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Listens to oral and written intercepts or pre-recorded communications in Punjabi - Eastern Dialect and provides verbal and written synopsis and transcriptions as it may be applicable per project. Responsible for relating all pertinent information to the Client when supporting a live project. Contributes to a master-list of slang words and codes (used by a particular group/organization) for the duration of the project/case. Maintains a voice library for the duration of the project. Transcribes and translates pertinent calls and documents as assigned by their supervisor. Produce court ready transcriptions of pertinent calls, chats, and documents, following the required format. Responsible for using the various reference tools created during the project. Ability to transcribe a minimum of 16 minutes of recorded conversation in an 8-hour day. Operates specialized software equipment provided by the government to include JSI voice box, Pen-link, Comverse, and other communication collection equipment used at their assigned site. Maintain daily log of productivity. Performs related duties as assigned, within the scope of practice. Provide accurate oral interpretations for spoken languages for Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients, their families, and Corewell Health employees in-person, over-the-phone, and via videoconferencing throughout the hospital and clinics. Essential Functions * Ability to interpret source target language in a variety of health care settings between patients and their families and medical, nursing, and support staff. Some examples: surgical and medical procedures; transplant teaching, discharge instructions, consent forms and hospital policies, etc. * Provides interpreting services in accordance with Corewell Health policies and procedures and the National Council on Interpreters In Health Care (NCIHC) Code of Ethics governing the profession of Interpreting. * Maintains assignment log current for documentation purposes. * Assists with the on-boarding process of new staff as well as providing shadowing opportunities for people interested in profession, etc. * Assist with dispatching interpreter requests during weekend and off hours. * Maintains certification current by keeping up with continuing education credits and adhering to certification renewal deadlines. * Ability to interpret over-the-phone or via video for long periods of time.
