The Medical Interpreter serves as a cultural and linguistic resource to both patients and providers by facilitating the successful delivery of patient care service to a linguistically diverse population. In this role the interpreter participates as a neutral party or as the conduit for information that must flow between Carle staff, and Limited English Proficiency (LEP) patients and/or their care providers.

Responsibilities
Facilitates communication between Carle staff and LEP patients in variety of modalities including in person, over the phone and video relay. Ensures that information pertaining to the patient's outpatient services, hospitalization, (i.e. advance directives, consents from treatment, diagnosis and prognosis, treatment plan, follow-up appointments and Health Care Education) are accurately communicated. Successfully complete the core Interpreter Services training requirements. Represent Interpreter Services and the organization in a positive and professional manner, exercising discretion at all times. Participate in on call coverage to provide interpretation services during non-business hours and business hours as assigned. Maintain confidentiality in all matters related to patient care and visitor issues with LEP patients and their caregivers/families/escorts. Promote customer satisfaction related to Carle services; notify Supervisor of any issues that may be problematic for patients or Carle staff. Participate in continuing education programs and competency training to enhance professional role of Interpreter Services.

Job Summary:
Our Linguists are responsible for performing real-time transcriptions of sensitive material from Punjabi - Eastern Dialect to English; collecting, analyzing, identifying, and decoding of colloquialisms and slang terms; extracting pertinent information and communicating that information to law enforcement agent(s). The linguist will be responsible for transcribing source documents and recordings from storage media, including but not limited to audiocassettes, videocassettes, or digital media.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Listens to oral and written intercepts or pre-recorded communications in Punjabi - Eastern Dialect and provides verbal and written synopsis and transcriptions as it may be applicable per project.
Responsible for relating all pertinent information to the Client when supporting a live project.
Contributes to a master-list of slang words and codes (used by a particular group/organization) for the duration of the project/case.
Maintains a voice library for the duration of the project.
Transcribes and translates pertinent calls and documents as assigned by their supervisor.
Produce court ready transcriptions of pertinent calls, chats, and documents, following the required format.
Responsible for using the various reference tools created during the project.
Ability to transcribe a minimum of 16 minutes of recorded conversation in an 8-hour day.
Operates specialized software equipment provided by the government to include JSI voice box, Pen-link, Comverse, and other communication collection equipment used at their assigned site.
Maintain daily log of productivity.
Performs related duties as assigned, within the scope of practice.

Spanish Interpreter
Interpreter and translator job in Grand Rapids, MI
This is a full-time position and the schedule will be determined upon hire. Provide accurate oral interpretations for spoken languages for Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients, their families, and Corewell Health employees in-person, over-the-phone, and via videoconferencing throughout the hospital and clinics.
Essential Functions
* Ability to interpret source target language in a variety of health care settings between patients and their families and medical, nursing, and support staff. Some examples: surgical and medical procedures; transplant teaching, discharge instructions, consent forms and hospital policies, etc.
* Provides interpreting services in accordance with Corewell Health policies and procedures and the National Council on Interpreters In Health Care (NCIHC) Code of Ethics governing the profession of Interpreting.
* Maintains assignment log current for documentation purposes.
* Assists with the on-boarding process of new staff as well as providing shadowing opportunities for people interested in profession, etc.
* Assist with dispatching interpreter requests during weekend and off hours.
* Maintains certification current by keeping up with continuing education credits and adhering to certification renewal deadlines.
* Ability to interpret over-the-phone or via video for long periods of time. Ability to walk extensively throughout the workday.
* Ability to communicate effectively throughout the workday with Language Services schedulers. Demonstrated ability to interact with people in a sensitive, tactful, patient and discrete manner.
Qualifications
Required
* High School Diploma or equivalent
* 1 year of relevant experience providing interpreting services
* 40 hour Interpreter Training
* CRT-Healthcare Interpreter, Certified (CHI) - CCHI Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters, within 180 days after hire
Preferred
* Associate's degree or equivalent
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent
* 1 year of relevant experience in a health care setting
* LIC-Driver's License - State of Michigan
* CRT-Auto Insurance
