Responsibilities
About the Role
We are seeking a highly capable and detail-oriented attorney with significant experience in New York landlord tenant matters to serve as the Supervisor of our Landlord Tenant Department. This role is designed for an attorney who has strong command of landlord tenant procedures, cooperative occupancy issues, nonpayment and holdover proceedings, chronic delinquency matters, and administrative filings related to building compliance. The position involves overseeing all legal work performed on behalf of cooperative and condominium clients in this practice area, providing guidance to attorneys and support staff, ensuring consistent quality, and managing departmental workflow.
This role offers the opportunity to lead a growing practice group, work closely with board members and managing agents, and shape the legal strategy for a wide range of occupancy and enforcement matters involving cooperatives throughout New York. The department handles a steady volume of courtroom activity, and every attorney plays an important role in that work. Junior associates take on regular appearances that are essential to the progress of each case, while the Supervisor focuses on the higher level advocacy such as trials, oral argument, strategic hearings, and complex motion practice. In addition, the Supervisor will oversee departmental workflow, provide mentorship, and ensure consistent quality across all matters. What You'll Do
• Department Leadership: Direct the workflow of the Landlord Tenant Department, ensuring that all matters are handled efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with firm standards.
• Case Strategy and Oversight: Guide cases from inception through resolution, including developing strategy, reviewing junior attorney work, and advising board members and managing agents on next steps.
• Courtroom Advocacy: Handle significant court appearances, including trials, oral argument, complex motion practice, and key hearings, while also supporting and mentoring junior attorneys on their courtroom work.
• Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct and review legal research to support case strategy, emerging legal issues, and departmental best practices.
• Drafting and Review: Prepare and supervise the drafting of pleadings, motions, notices of default, nonpayment petitions, holdover petitions, and all documents related to summary proceedings.
• Client Communication: Maintain clear and responsive communication with cooperative and condominium boards and managing agents, ensuring that clients understand case progress, strategy, and risk.
• Negotiation and Resolution: Lead or oversee settlement discussions, negotiation of stipulations, and participation in alternative dispute resolution efforts.
• Departmental Quality Control: Ensure consistency in filings, appearance coverage, calendaring, and documentation across all landlord tenant matters handled by the firm.
• Training and Mentoring: Provide guidance to associates and support staff on procedural requirements, courtroom practice, and effective client communication.
• Bankruptcy Coordination: Identify and navigate issues arising from tenant bankruptcies, including the automatic stay, proof of claim requirements, and coordinating with bankruptcy counsel when necessary to protect cooperative interests.
• Estates, Surrogate's Court, and Guardianship Coordination: Address occupancy issues involving deceased or incapacitated residents. This includes preparing petitions or related filings needed to request the appointment of a public administrator or guardian so that landlord tenant matters can proceed, and coordinating with outside counsel or agencies when required.
Qualifications
Who You Are
• Licensed in New York: Admitted to practice law in New York State.
• Experienced: Seven or more years of landlord tenant experience, including litigation and courtroom practice.
• Co-op Knowledge Helpful: Familiarity with co-op, condo, or community association law is a plus.
• Strong Communicator: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Organized and Analytical: Able to manage a high volume of matters with strong attention to detail.
• Client Focused: Comfortable advising boards and managing agents and maintaining clear communication.
• Team Oriented: Able to work independently and collaboratively and open to mentoring junior attorneys.
• Related Areas a Plus: Exposure to bankruptcy issues, surrogate's court coordination, or guardianship matters is helpful but not required.

Job Summary
Reporting to the Legal Paraprofessionals Manager, this role will be responsible for supporting various attorneys in the Public and Education Law section with all administrative aspects of the section specialty.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
* Provide general office support, including printing, scanning, copying, mailing, faxing, and emailing documents.
* Arrange couriers, court reporters, expert witnesses, and other special functions.
* Prepare check requests, submit purchase orders, and process expense reports.
* Update attorneys contact information and maintain accurate records.
* Assist with case screening and origination, including initial conflict checks in collaboration with the Records Department.
* Create and maintain reliable electronic filing systems.
* Close concluded matters as directed by attorneys.
* Transcribe, proofread, format, and file legal documents such as correspondence, discovery, pleadings, contracts, and meeting minutes.
* Index, redact, bate stamp, and organize documents for production using AdobePro.
* E-file documents via NJ E-Courts, New York State Courts Electronic Filing (NYSCEF), and PACER.
* Maintain attorney calendars by scheduling meetings, appointments, and conferences (onsite and remote), managing changes, and keeping attorneys informed.
* Attend meetings and take notes.
* Answer incoming phone calls on behalf of assigned attorneys, take messages, and answer clerical client inquiries per attorney request.
* Send court documents to clients, witnesses, or court officials via mail, fax, or email.
* Input attorney time into timekeeping software as requested.
* Perform other administrative duties as assigned.
Education and Required Skills
* Associate degree or equivalent experience.
* Minimum 1-2 years law firm experience.
* Legal Secretary experience in Public and Education Law preferred.
* Ability to function well in a high-paced environment.
* Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize.
* Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information and to exercise discretion and good judgement.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Proficient understanding of legal terminology and principles, research methods, and court processes.
* Strong technology skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Work Schedule
* In office work at the Little Falls, NJ location.
* Full-time, non-exempt, Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (one hour unpaid lunch).
* Overtime (over 40 hours) may be required from time to time.
Salary
* Compensation range $30/hr - $38/hr
