Along the southern portion of the Project, the older road had been designated Utah State Route 228 in 1981.
The organizations would then organize efforts to improve that particular route (Lyman 1999). Promoters would also advertise new routes, and Bigelow ended up writing hundreds of national newspaper articles extolling the gorgeous scenery of southern Utah and the rest of the West.
W.W. Clyde, for example, developed into a large and successful heavy civil construction firm that constructed the Salt Lake International Airport and the 2002 Winter Olympic facilities.
