KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare and file estate probate and administration petitions in Pennsylvania and New Jersey
Assist with all phases of estate and trust administration, including preparing inventories, asset valuations, fiduciary accountings, and related documentation
Draft and file federal (Form 706) and state estate tax returns (PA and NJ Inheritance Tax Returns)
Assist with the preparation of fiduciary income tax returns (Form 1041)
Organize and manage case files, deadlines, and documentation
Communicate professionally with clients, court personnel, accountants, and financial institutions
Maintain confidentiality and uphold the highest ethical standards in handling sensitive client information
QUALIFICATIONS (EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES):
Bachelor's degree and paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program preferred
Minimum 7 years of experience as a paralegal, with at least 5 years focused on trusts and estates
In-depth knowledge of probate procedures and estate administration in Pennsylvania and New Jersey
Strong understanding of estate, gift, and fiduciary tax rules and filings
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with estate tax and accounting software (e.g., ONESOURCE, GEMS, Lackner, Estate Val or similar)
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines with minimal supervision

The Paralegal for the General Claims Legal department provides paralegal support to in-house staff attorneys for claims-based legal matters, assists attorneys' legal research, and monitors case and publication alerts through Westlaw and public dockets on important cases, regulations or statutes. The GC Legal Paralegal analyzes issues related to liens, child support judgments, and releases, and drafts correspondence, memoranda and pleadings under the close guidance of staff attorneys.
The GC Legal Paralegal develops reports to aid General Claims leadership through the analysis and assembly of data provided from various sources, which reports are prepared and updated on a cadence managed independently by the paralegal. The GC Legal Paralegal also provides some support for subpoena responses.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare reports to aid General Claims' monitoring of litigated matters; provide selection of suit evaluation reports with cover summary of important information to attorneys to aid in quarterly attorney audit of suit evaluation reports and general firm oversight; and provide completed trial reports to attorneys assigned to oversight of firms. Track status for all matters tried to conclusion for financial metrics.
Provide paralegal support to nine attorneys through assigned legal reviews, which includes conducting legal research and circulating newly released court opinions on relevant issues; monitoring case and publication alerts through Westlaw on important cases, regulations or statutes; monitoring Google search reports on topics as requested; and obtaining documents through eCourts in New Jersey, Pennsylvania state courts, as well as through Pacer for federal courts.
Respond to requests for multi-state child support judgment searches. Review releases that deviate from NJM's format. Prepare memoranda for collections, support the Collections Department in recovering fraudulently obtained funds from NJM; track these matters with Collections every 60-90 days for status; and assist GC Legal in reviewing the NJM Special Investigations Unit (SIU) fraud investigations.
Prepare annual review of outside counsel using data provided from various sources including financial metrics databases, the NJM SIU, the GC Subrogation Department, GC Legal Staff, and GC Staff.
Review ERISA plan documents to determine whether the plan is a self-funded plan that legally may enforce a lien for medical benefits, and provide a recommended conclusion to GC Legal Staff. Tailor coverage denial letters for routinely encountered coverage issues by adding fact-specific claim details under the close guidance of GC Legal Staff.

Proficiency in accurately organizing, analyzing and preparing documents and data
Strong ability to analyze documents for relevance and privilege
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required, ability to perform data analysis through Excel, is a plus

Compensation: This is a full-time position covered by the collective bargaining agreement between CLS and the National Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees, AFL-CIO and its affiliate District 1199C. The current minimum starting salary is $47,410 for entry-level applicants, which increases with relevant years of experience and according to the provisions of the current collective bargaining agreement. CLS asks for a minimum two-year commitment from individuals who accept an offer of employment for a paralegal position.
