In 1814, Brown presented the Yearly Meeting with 43 acres of land in Providence and worked diligently toward the creation of a school on this land.
The school reopened in 1819 in Providence.
His son Obadiah was a major supporter of this effort until his untimely death in 1822.
“Moses Brown (1738-1836) was an influential opponent of slavery; patron of education, religion and agriculture; and prominent Quaker.
In 1904 the school was renamed "Moses Brown School" to honor its benefactor and advocate.
Robert M. Hazelton, Let Freedom Ring! (1957), discusses Brown as a Quaker. □
As of 2013 the school was owned by New England Yearly Meeting, with its own Board of Overseers, and operated independently of the yearly meeting.
