In 1997, most of the leading semiconductor introduced the 250nm process node.
The 180nm process node, was introduced in 1999 by most Intel, Texas Instruments, IBM, and TSMC.
The 90nm process node was introduced in 2004 by AMD, Infineon, Texas Instruments, IBM, and TSMC.
Intel’s groundbreaking achievements continue in the new century.In January 2006, the company announced it had designed what is believed to be the fi rst fully functional SRAM (static random access memory) chip using 45-nanometer (nm) logic technology.
In 2006, Intel, AMD, IBM, UMC, Chartered and TSMC introduced the 65nm technology node.
In the 2009 ITRS, the references to the term ‘technology node’ were eliminated.
The first 14 nm scale devices were shipped to consumers by Intel in 2014.
What is the way forward for the roadmaps? With the generally acknowledged sunsetting of conventional Moore's Law, where scaling is achieved merely by process improvement, ITRS issued its final roadmap in 2016.
Samsung first released their version of a 10 nm process node in 2017.
To overcome these challenges, industry’s official hope is EUV – Extreme ultraviolet lithography which is the next-generation lithography technology that employs an extreme ultraviolet (EUV) wavelength, currently expected to be 13.5 nm and is planned for high volume use by 2020.
