The mission of the Svendsen Laboratory is to study neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Huntington's disease (HD), spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), Parkinson's disease (PD), and Allan-Herndon-Dudley syndrome (AHDS) using stem cells as a disease treatment, as well as a tool for modeling these diseases in vitro. Clive Svendsen, PhD, has significant experience in studying these diseases over the last twenty years and is merging his experience with the use of groundbreaking technologies, such as inducible pluripotent stem cells (iPSC cells). The Postdoctoral Scientist works independently but in close cooperation and consultation with the Principal Investigator and other Research Scientists. The incumbent will perform routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout training period. May develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols. Analyzes and interprets data.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
May assist in the preparation of grant proposals, but is not responsible for generating grant funds.
May participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author.
Designs and performs experiments. Will keep appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyze the results with the Principal Investigator.
Analyzes interpret, summarizes, and compiles data.
Operates and maintains equipment and instruments.
May observe MD-patient or MD-human research subject interactions as they pertain directly to research being performed.
Qualifications
Education:
• Doctorate (MD, PhD, VMD, or DDS) in the area directly related to the field of research specialization.
Experience and Skills:
Acquires thorough technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to fiveyear post-doctoral appointment.
Works independently on research projects designed by a mentor (typically the PI) within area of specialization.
Demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection, analysis, operation, and maintenance of specialized equipment.
Scheduling flexibility including evening, weekend, and holiday rotation commitments may be necessary. Travel may be required.
Function efficiently and cooperatively with a team of faculty, researchassociates, technicians, and students.

How You'll Make an Impact
Dudek is seeking a mid to senior level biologist who can qualify as a designated biologist for burrowing owl (
Athene cunicularia
) to provide environmental construction and biological resource monitoring services on current construction projects. This position will be based at a project site located in the Fresno area of Central Valley California and the workload is variable. This position is anticipated to be year round for at least the next year, with the potential for other Projects in the area.
Candidate would have demonstrated experience in Central Valley biological resources including special-status wildlife species, rare plants, and aquatic resources.
The key requirements for Burrowing Owl experience are:
Protocol level burrowing owl surveys using the 2012 CDFW staff report protocol.
Burrow Mapping on digital media (phone/ipad).
Burrowing owl monitoring experience at various life stages.
Construction Monitoring under another California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) Incidental Take Permit (ITP) for any species.
Burrow Avoidance (buffer installation with support of construction team).
Documented experience of excavation of BUOW burrows under a CDFW approved Burrowing Owl Passive Relocation Plan.
Burrow Blocking, including one way door passive relocation, note that this must have been completed under an ITP or under an approved Passive Relocation Plan.
Writing of BUOW Plans and Reports (BUOW mortality reduction Plan, Burrow Replacement Plan, Survey reporting).
Additional experience in storm water, hazardous materials, air emissions, or noise monitoring is preferred.

Work with construction crews and project managers to document compliance levels related to associated project environmental permits.
Complete construction surveys and focused resource surveys.

Ability to work collaboratively with construction personnel and project managers to develop solutions while implementing permit conditions
Record and take notes of any observations on a Dudek platform to be used for reporting purposes

Minimum of a BA/BS degree in environmental science, environmental studies, biology or other related field OR at least 3 years of field experience in construction compliance monitoring

Pay Transparency:
For the Field Biologist position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $73,000 - $80,000, $35.09/hr - $38.46/hr, limited-term, non-exempt. An employee's pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where employee's fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above. This job may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/Flexforce employees are NOT bonus eligible).

The Research / Process Technology Internship is a unique program in partnership with universities. The program offers 2-to-6-month placement opportunities based out of E. & J. Gallo's subsidiary, California Natural Colors located in Fresno, California. This internship provides the opportunity for Master's and PhD students to apply their advanced knowledge in natural product chemistry within Cal Color's Research and Development department. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in an industrial research environment and increase your skills for future employment.
Specific training and project work undertaken by interns may include the following, depending on available placement(s):
Produce and evaluate the chemical characteristics of grape seed extracts and natural colors.
Produce and test the physical properties of emulsions.
Implement rapid chemical methods to measure and monitor bench, pilot, and production scale processes.
Conduct organic synthesis of target molecules.
Use HPLC to analyze various natural products.
Use other separation techniques (e.g., adsorption elution, membrane filtration, etc.)
