Enforces parking and traffic rules and regulations by patrolling parking lots and issuing citations. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions: Patrols, inspects, monitors, protects and secures college buildings and grounds for the prevention of crimes and responds to emergencies. Responsible for the enforcement of security procedures and guidelines. Analyzes situations quickly and objectively and determines if law enforcement involvement is required and/or the proper course of action. Assists with traffic control and crosswalk duty, as needed. Promptly responds to safety and security incidents. Deters criminal acts and violence through preemptive and proactive actions. Issues citations for parking violations on college properties. Documents concise and accurate incident reports, security logs and other required written documentation. Prepares pertinent reports and gathers written statements, as needed. Reports missing traffic signals, signs and other security and safety concerns. Provides safety and security services at College functions, as needed. Provides escort services and other basic public assistance services to students, employees, and visitors when needed. Provides general information to students, employees, and visitors. Operates and conducts routine preventive maintenance on College vehicles; notifies appropriate personnel of any vehicle maintenance required. Travels throughout the college district, as needed. Serves as Campus Security Authority. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience To qualify, one of the following must be met: College Certificate; Associate's degree preferred A minimum of 30 earned college hours At least one (1) year of related work experience, preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.     A Court Security Officer (CSO) is a specialized security position providing protective services at or around United State Federal Court Houses or other areas as assigned under a contract to the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS). CSO's in this classification generally provide security services under some limited supervision from a Lead CSO and the District Supervisor who reports to the Contract Manager (CM). The CSO position is able to perform a variety of fixed-post, mobile, or foot patrols while maintaining situational awareness and making decisions and/or taking actions consistent with established post orders, facility rules, guidelines and protocols. Duties may include work in austere and uncomfortable conditions for prolonged periods of time, including periods of inclement weather, while performing walking, standing, searching, and surveillance or sitting duties essential to the performance of the security functions. CANDIDATES MUST SUBMIT A RESUME TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE POSITION. RESPONSIBILITIES Shall enforce the District's entry and identification system. Test and Report Emergency Equipment Patrol court facilities and grounds of the facility in accordance with applicable post orders. Shall man USMS authorized stationary posts. Must have transportation to travel to assigned location at any given time. * Be responsible for assigned gun and attend rigorous gun safety training. * Patrols district buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry. * Conducts patrol inspections of doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure. * Confronts unauthorized persons for questioning, routes, or detains them, or calls police for assistance, according to emergency action plan. * Sounds fire signal to alert fire department and school personnel in event of fire and assists in extinguishing fire. * Reports any unusual conditions or malfunctioning of heating, plumbing, or electrical systems. * Patrols school grounds to detect unauthorized persons or vehicles; to check cars for parking authorization; to determine if vehicles are parked in restricted areas, such as near fire hydrants or in driveways; and to check exterior lighting and emergency access routes. * Confronts students creating problems and directs them to the office, if necessary. * Supervises and directs student parking and campus traffic when students are dropped off and picked up at school. * Supervises his/her designed area and keeps in close contact with other security guards. * Must attend all training and staff development provided by PSJA ISD Security and Safety Department. * Other assigned duties as assigned by Head Security, Director for School Security and Safety, Area Supervisors, Head Security Officer, and Campus Administration.
