We are seeking American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters to support our software developers and engineers in meeting their mission requirements. Specifically, this candidate would help with in-house translations, facilitate communication among staff and customers, bridge the gap in customer communications (secure meetings), and work on a part-time, as needed basis. Though rare, there may be occasional travel for conferences and customer site meetings. Candidates must reside within a 30-minute commute to our Vienna office to handle scheduled and ad-hoc onsite meetings as they may arise. Meetings take place Monday - Friday, typically between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. Candidates must undergo and pass a security clearance investigation before onboarding. Primary responsibilities include directly supporting deaf and hard of hearing students by providing interpreting services for classes, appointments, and other university-sponsored events. The ASL Interpreter serves as a liaison between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and the campus community. The ASL Interpreter functions as a member of the Center for Student Success team and supports other CSS initiatives as assigned. Essential Functions Perform advanced interpreting services for deaf and hard of hearing students. Serve as liaison between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and members of our campus community. Confer with faculty regarding the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students and the use of interpreters and Typewell transcriptionists in their classrooms. Provide interpreting services for classes, appointments, and other university-sponsored events. Refer students to appropriate college and/or community resources. Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals, policies, and procedures within scope of work. Maintain confidentiality of student records in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act ( FERPA ). Abide by the NAD - RID Code of Professional Conduct, Stevenson University policies, and applicable state and federal laws.

Languages include, but are not limited to: Russian, Korean, Chinese, Arabic, and Farsi. Events can be held in both CONUS and OCONUS locations and can range from a few days to a few weeks in duration. Requirements: Ability to listen, understand and speak the required foreign language sufficiently to effect the training scenario. Foreign language role players must possess the ability to speak in clear, correct, and concise grammar in the required language, and Basic English. Foreign language role players must be able to translate oral communication from the target foreign language into Basic English and in reverse as required for the training exercise. Realistically, accurately and convincingly portray a variety of scenarios, in diversified settings and environments, such as practical, situational and field training exercises and tests. Portray HUMINT and CI source in a variety of role playing scenarios. Memorize critical data contained in each role. Be prepared for each role so as to portray assigned role(s) with no reliance to the role script (off book). Foreign language role players will not attempt to speak using foreign accents in their conduct of a role if they do not naturally speak with an accent Convey information and data in response to students correct and proper interview skills, questioning and/or elicitation techniques, while simultaneously completing Government provided Student Evaluation Sheets, in accordance with Government provided references, procedures and forms. Realistically, accurately and convincingly portray foreign language role players. If required Foreign Language Role Players must have a SECRET clearance. Candidates should be comfortable on being scheduled on short notice 3-5 business days for OCONUS events.
