The GI Tech is also responsible for pre cleaning and decontamination of the endoscope.
In addition to assisting the endoscopist during procedures, the GI Tech is responsible for setting up the procedure room and ensuring it is ready both before and after the procedure. They coordinate the transportation of supplies and equipment for the endoscopy procedures and perform pre-cleaning and decontamination of the endoscope. The GI Tech assists with endoscopy procedures in various care settings, including intensive care units, operating rooms, and interventional radiology, demonstrating the technical skills necessary to support the endoscopist.
This position requires 24-hour call once per week and one weekend every six weeks
Function/Duties of Position
Procedure Preparation and Room Setup:
Review daily procedure schedules and provider/nurse preferences to anticipate needs.
Prepare procedure rooms with the required instruments, equipment, and supplies based on case requirements.
Verify the sterility, integrity, and functionality of all instruments and supplies.
Ensure all equipment is functioning properly before and during use.
Assemble and arrange equipment and materials for scheduled endoscopic procedures
Intra-Procedure Support:
Assist the provider by manipulating equipment during procedures as requested.
Hand instruments, equipment, and supplies to the provider or nurse, responding quickly to their needs.
Scrub hands and adhere strictly to infection control protocols throughout the procedure.
Monitor patient status and promptly report any changes or complications to the provider or nurse.
Support patient care alongside the endoscopy team before, during, and after procedures.
Assist with the operation and troubleshooting of endoscopic equipment, including scopes, monitors, video systems, and electrocautery devices.
Specimen Handling:
Assist in obtaining specimens during endoscopic procedures.
Correctly preserve/collect, label, and transport specimens to the laboratory according to protocols.
Post-Procedure Decontamination and Room Turnover:
Safely remove and transport used endoscopic equipment to designated areas for cleaning, high-level disinfection, or sterilization.
Dispose of all single-use and contaminated materials (e.g., sponges, gloves, blood, and irrigation fluids) following infection control and hazardous waste protocols.
Thoroughly wipe down all surfaces in the procedure room, including furniture, light fixtures, monitors, walls, and floors, using hospital-approved disinfectants.
Ensure complete environmental cleaning and decontamination of the room to uphold infection prevention standards.
Remove any unused or unnecessary supplies and prepare the room with the essential items required for the next procedure.
Documentation and Reporting:
Accurately document relevant procedure data in the patient's medical record.
Record supplies and instruments used, and report patient charges accordingly.
Supply and Equipment Maintenance:
Clean and disinfect endoscopes and related instruments according to established unit protocols, ensuring compliance with decontamination and infection control standards.
Inspect scopes and equipment for damage before and after use; handle and store equipment appropriately to prevent any potential damage.
Maintain all equipment in proper working condition and promptly report any malfunctioning items to the charge nurse or manager.
Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and collaborate with Clinical Technology Services or external repair technicians for complex repairs or servicing.
Prepare instruments for sterilization, including proper packaging for autoclaving, and receive processed instruments from Central Sterile Processing.
Perform routine safety and compliance checks (e.g., eyewash stations, refrigerators, and equipment functionality) and document results as required.

Completion of a Surgical Technology program from a community college; OR
One year of experience, within the last five years, of clinical or hospital based GI procedure unit or a surgical procedure room setting including assembling supplies and instruments; preparing room for procedures; and participating as a member of the procedural team.

Working conditions may include working outside in inclement weather, crawling in small cramped spaces, working from ladders, scaffolds and other above ground locations including high sloping roofs; working in extreme temperatures, around moving machinery, and in confined spaces containing high levels of of noise, dust, and odors could be expected. Some risk of exposure to dirt, biological, chemical and radiological materials, some danger of steam or hot water burns, electric shock, infection or minor injuries that could require the use of OSHA approved Personal Protective Equipment.
Normal duties require 40 hours per week. The position does require the ability of the incumbent to be able to respond to on-call assignments, overtime, and after hours or emergency call-backs as needed.

Function/Duties of Position
Specimen Preparation:
* Receives specimens for testing, prepares and labels media plates.
* Prioritizes work according to established procedures.
* Transfers and aliquots specimens for processing in a biological safety cabinet.
* Organizes and stores specimens after testing is completed.
* Handles microbiology specimens as urine, blood, lower respiratory cultures etc.
* Follows all procedures related to specimen processing.
* Ensures all specimens are properly labeled and meet specimen's requirements.
* Performs Microbiology primary processing including properly making slides for gram stains and plating accordingly to different sources.
Answers multi-line telephone and performs client services duties:
* Inputs sample or specimen information from requisition slip into computer.
* Performs reviews of list in epic beaker.
* Distributes samples or specimens to appropriate work areas.
* Calls health care provider to clarify orders and report test results according to established policy. Triages phone calls into the lab.
* Communicates status of specimens and maintains a high level of customer service.
Materials Preparation:
* Prepares, reagents, chemical solutions, and other media according to written instructions.
* Manages and orders reagents and supplies on a periodic basis to ensure adequate stock levels.
* Runs quality control checks on material prepared and records all quality control activities.

Required Qualifications
* A Certificate or Associate Degree from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician training program; OR
* Completion of a certified Laboratory Assistant training program which includes 45 credit hours in chemistry or biological science, plus one year experience in a clinical laboratory; Medical Lab Assistant certification preferred (CLMA(AMT)or equivalent); OR
* Forty-five credit hours of college level chemical or biological courses and two years of experience as a Laboratory Assistant in a clinical laboratory; Medical Lab Assistant certification preferred (CLMA(AMT) or equivalent);
* Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

POSITION SUMMARY
Our Medication Technicians (Med Tech - CNA/HCA) provide compassionate, direct care to our residents, assisting them with medication administration and activities of daily living, in accordance with their personalized medication and treatment plans. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist residents with the daily administration of prescribed medication, including self-administration, as outlined in their individual care plan.
Follow documentation protocols and report any changes in resident status.
Assist in managing medication inventory and proper storage conditions, and coordinate medication re-orders and deliveries with pharmacies as necessary.
Provide compassionate care and support with activities of daily living to the residents in a team setting as needed.
Prioritize independence and provide emotional support to the residents by providing continuous engagement and companionship.
Encourage and assist with participation in life enrichment activity programs.
Promote open communication between healthcare professionals, families, residents, and staff.
Requirements:
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Certifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must have a valid state NAR, CNA or HCA license per state regulations.
Current First Aid and CPR license or ability to obtain.
Nurse Delegation and Diabetes Specialty Certificates or willingness to obtain within a prescribed period.
Experience, Competencies, and Skills:
At least 12 months of experience administering medications in a professional caregiving setting.
Experience with memory care is a plus, but not required.
