- 1968 is when it became an open event

1997

The Tennis Anti-Doping Programme is adopted by the ITF, ATP and WTA and includes a set of fixed standards that the three main bodies must adhere to as well as a strong educational component. It becomes exclusively managed by the ITF four years later, in 1997.

1998

The world’s most advanced tennis-specific research facility is housed at the ITF. Also in 1998, Wheelchair tennis is subsumed into the ITF, making it the first disabled sport to achieve such a union at international level

2006

2006 Electronic line-calling makes its debut in Perth More about Line calling

2007

Equality was achieved in 2007 at Wimbledon when both winners earned £700,000.

2007 Launch of Play & Stay and Tennis iCoach (now ITF Academy) Visit the ITF Academy

2009

- Conquered by Rafael Nadal won in 8 of the last 9 years (didn’t play in 2009)

2015

- WTA stated that in 2015 more than 2500 elite players competed for $129 million in prize money at 55 WTA events & 4 Grand Slams

2016

By 2016 it has risen to £2 million each!

2020

Fed Cup is re-branded in 2020 to align with a 10-time winner (as player and captain) of the competition and a global icon who has dedicated her life to fighting injustice, inequality and discrimination in all forms.
