The University of Jordan company history timeline
In 1962, ِa delegation from the British Army met with the commanders of the Jordanian Army to negotiate terms for an aid from the British government intended to help with the establishment of the University of Jordan.
In 1982 Hamdallah accepted a professorship in the English department of Al-Najah National University, in the West Bank city of Nablus.
Higher education in Jordan is regulated and monitored by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MHESR), which was created in 1985.
Al-Balqa Applied University, established in 1997, and many community colleges under its tutelage provide more than 40% of technical and vocational education in Jordan.
Operating under the umbrella of the MHESR, a scientific research-funding agency was established in 2005 to prompt scientific research and to fund research initiatives in the country.
These developments opened the way for the West Bank and the Gaza Strip to be brought under a unified Palestinian administration for the first time since the 2007 split between Fatah and Hamas.
Hamdallah served as president of Al-Najah until 2013, when PA Pres.
On June 2, 2014, two months after the conclusion of a reconciliation agreement between the rival Palestinian factions Fatah and Hamas, a new PA cabinet was sworn in with Hamdallah again as prime minister.
In July 2015, amid growing tensions, Abbas reshuffled the cabinet without consulting Hamas.
However, the MHESR allocated a special portion of its budget to support students with low income, with a budget of JOD 10 million (≈US$14.11 million) annually and 40,000 scholarships in 2015.
Nonetheless, in 2017 Hamas allowed Hamdallah’s government to begin taking on administrative control of the Gaza Strip.
In March 2018 a roadside bomb detonated near Hamdallah’s convoy during a visit to the Gaza Strip.
In the West Bank, meanwhile, concerns were brewing over the future of the PA. In 2018 a health scare for Abbas raised concerns over who would lead the PA after him.
Weeks later the PA stopped paying civil servants in the Gaza Strip; Abbas later imposed sanctions on the Gaza Strip and, in January 2019, began pulling PA forces from their administrative duties in the region.
