1814

Koenig's double cylinder steam driven press printed The Times of London issue of November 29, 1814.

The Times followed up their original announcement with an article defending the introduction of the new technology on December 3, 1814.

By the end of the war in 1783, there were 43 newspapers published in the colonies; and by ]]> 1814 that number expanded to 346]]>.

1871

Their 1922 single-color Klein-Roland 00 offset press can print up to 5000 sheets per hour. It is manufactured in Offenbach, Germany by Faber & Schleicher AG. The company had been founded in 1871 and started shipping its first Albatros press 4 years later.

1890

It is a hit at the Foire de Paris, saving the Swiss company that was founded in 1890 from bankruptcy.

By 1890, some papers boasted circulations in excess of one million copies.

1901

In 1901 the advertising budget of Coca-Cola is $100,000 – a large part of which goes to advertising in these new magazines and newspapers.

1910

Hallmark, founded in 1910, creates its first Christmas card.

1912

In late 1912 the first machine is installed at the New York Journal of Commerce.

1917

Captured Italian soldiers are escorted to the rear by German soldiers during the Battle of Caporetto, 1917

1919

Shinohara Machinery Company, the Japanese machine tool manufacturer which had been established in 1919, begins manufacturing flatbed letterpress machines.

1922

Their 1922 single-color Klein-Roland 00 offset press can print up to 5000 sheets per hour.

1925

Their first lithograph roll printing press is developed in 1925.

1928

A 32-inch manual sheetfed offset press follows in 1928.

1931

The first commercially successful series of paperback books is published by Penguin Books in the UK. Earlier in 1931 German publisher Albatross Books had already tried to market a series of lower-priced books with a paper cover and glue binding.

1939

Before being renamed Times Printing in 1939, the company was known as the Times Publishing Company.

1940

Their next major success will be the Bobst AP 900 automatic die-cutter, launched in 1940.

1942

In September 1942, Office of War Information photographer Marjory Collins paid a visit to the offices of the New York Times, located at the iconic One Times Square and an annex on 43rd Street.

1946

In 1946 Arthur Smith bought Times Printing, thus cutting its ties to the Humboldt Times and becoming an independent company.

1954

In 1954 they build the first cutters with an optical cutting line indicator and air-cushion table.

1955

In 1955 Arthur sold the business to his son-in-law and daughter, Charles and Gladys Strope.

1973

1978

Miehle’s letterpresses will still be produced until 1978, gradually losing market share to offset lithography presses.

1985

In 1985 Charles retired and completed the transition of ownership and management of Times Printing to his son, Lane Strope and Lane's wife, Susan.

1998

2008

In 2008 Times Printing acquired the equipment necessary to offer automated mailing services.
