Job Summary
The Security Guard is responsible for maintaining the safety, security, and order of state-owned buildings, properties, and personnel. This position ensures public access is properly monitored, incidents are addressed quickly and appropriately, and agency policies and procedures are upheld.
Primary Responsibilities
Monitor and patrol assigned state buildings, grounds, and parking areas to detect and prevent unauthorized activity, vandalism, theft, and safety hazards. Conduct periodic foot or vehicle patrols to ensure security and report findings to supervisors. Control access to buildings and secure areas by verifying identification, issuing visitor badges, and logging entry and exit times. Monitor security checkpoints and entrances to prevent unauthorized access or suspicious activity. Respond to alarms, disturbances, or emergency calls (e.g., medical, fire, criminal activity), and alert emergency services when necessary. Document incidents clearly and accurately in logs and official reports; escalate major issues as directed by supervisors. Operate surveillance equipment, cameras, and access control systems to monitor activity in real time. Conduct security system checks to ensure all equipment is functioning properly. Enforce agency safety and security policies among staff, visitors, and the general public. Assist in evacuations and emergency drills; provide support during facility lockdowns or shelter-in-place orders.

Minimum Qualifications
At least six months of experience in security operations, law enforcement, public safety, or a related field.

Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee's demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.

Role and Team
As a Security Guard, you will be an integral part of the Security Team executing processes at our facility to ensure our associates, customers, and assets are protected. At our gates, you will be the face of ADESA to our customers, vendors and associates. You will play an active role in ensuring our Inventory Control procedures are followed. Secure all gates and buildings and patrol the premises. Sound alarms and notify authorities in case of emergency.
Verify only authorized individuals enter the property. Provide facility directions to customers, vendors and transporters.

Check departing vehicles to guard against theft of company property.
Greet customers at the gate and provide prompt and courteous service. Resolve customer complaints in a friendly manner.
When difficult situations arise, de-escalate situations to ensure we win with partners and collaborate on the forefront.
Using a handheld device, input vehicle information including the VIN number, miles, owner identification, vehicle options, repair orders and any other pertinent information.
Verify the VIN number being entered matches the VIN number on the shipper's Bill of Lading.
Watch and report irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes and doors left unsecured.
Account for and identify all keys, codes or other safety and security information
Maintain a current list of emergency and management telephone numbers
Maintain good operating condition of all equipment and facilities, including handheld devices and printers. Notify management of all breakdowns and maintenance needs.
Maintain a professional appearance and orderly work environment
Practice and promote teamwork continuously. Set a good personal example of attitude and performance
Maintain a good flow of communication with all auction team members and leaders
