The successful candidate will be expected to develop a robust, externally funded research program that bridges basic science and applied human nutrition. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, human nutrition assessment methods, nutrient metabolism, diet-disease mechanisms, biomarker discovery, and the physiological effects of dietary patterns or components. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in research related to models of disease and/or planning and implementing human clinical research and the diet-disease process and application of information in clinical and healthcare settings. The candidate's work should contribute to the advancement of human nutrition science and support the land-grant mission of Auburn University. This faculty member will play a critical role in teaching foundational nutrition science courses as well as courses related to diet-disease relationships and laboratory-based instruction. These courses are essential to the department's curriculum and provide students with the scientific literacy needed to understand how nutrition influences human health at the molecular, cellular, and systemic levels, and how this information can be applied in clinical and public health settings. Responsibilities: Develop and maintain an active, externally funded research program in applied human nutrition. Design and conduct human intervention studies and utilize advanced nutrition assessment methodologies. Publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at national and international conferences. Collaborate with departmental and interdisciplinary faculty to engage in impactful, cross-disciplinary research initiatives. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in nutritional biochemistry, diet-disease relationships, and related foundational topics. Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research. Advise undergraduate and graduate students on issues related to professional development, curriculum requirements, and career advancement. Participate in departmental, college, university, and professional service activities. Minimum Qualifications Earned doctorate in Nutritional Sciences, Biochemistry, Physiology, Food Science, or a closely related field at the time of hire. Applicants without a doctorate in one of these fields must provide evidence of at least 18 graduate credit hours in Nutrition or Nutritional Sciences within a terminal degree in a discipline that supports the primary responsibilities of the position. Evidence of or strong potential for excellence in research, teaching, and service. Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and laboratory-based instruction, with a desire for candidates with knowledge of and experience with applied nutrition in clinical and/or healthcare settings.
