This question is about legal extern resumes.
You put an externship on your resume by including it under the 'Professional Experience' section or creating an 'Externship' section if you have multiple relevant externships and would like to show them all. You can also touch on your externship experience in your resume objective and skills section.
An externship is similar to an internship or apprenticeship. The concept of an externship enables students to gain practical experiences in their field of study. As such, externships tend to follow the same format for listing them on your resume.
Unlike internships that can last several months, an externship is typically a short-term job shadowing experience that lasts for a week or a few days and focuses on observations or reviews of company culture and policies.
One place to describe your externship experience by listing under the work experience section. We recommend that you list the externship and create three bullet points that describe the skills and training you received during the experience.
Like how you list other work experiences, include the name of the business and the exact dates of the externship above the bullet points. The advantage of having this is the section being near the top of your resume, so it will stand out from other information that comes later.
Another way to incorporate externship experience is to create a separate section devoted to this. For example, Internship / Externship as the section heading.
This section would come either after work experience or at the very end of your resume, making it the last thing they'll see when they read or scan. Separating it from other information draws more attention to it, and that's the advantage here.
A third way is to mix it with your resume's work history, profile objective, and skills sections. Depending on how long these lasted and your overall background, you could lump it in with the rest of your work experience.
The advantage here is that it keeps it all in one section and can help fill the page more. The downside is that it makes it harder to draw as much attention to the various kinds of experience.
