How do you write a cover letter for a job at ESPN?

Talk about what your passion for sports has led you to do and how it has shaped the person that you are. Do you take time out of your weekends to coach little league? Did you win the football championship in high school and it led you to pursue a degree in sports management? Tell your story!

After you have proven your passion, highlight and expand on the strong points in your resume. Explain what you have done using metrics and make them understand the impacts that it had on your organization and why it mattered.

Examples include:

• As the data scientist, I was able to use predictive analytics to forecast company sales of new products with a 95% accuracy rating

• As a sales manager, I was able to implement new sales processes for the business-to-business sales team that resulted in a 12% increase in overall revenue

• As a payroll specialist, I implemented a new payroll and tax accounting system that saved the company over $1,000,000 in personnel costs over a 10 year period.

• As a project manager, I identified areas of bottleneck in the hiring process and spearheaded a taskforce to implement new technologies and strategies to overcome the issues. This resulted in a 17% faster hire to start timeline

Be concise and only add relevant information. You don't need to include 7 different examples to make your point. Keep the cover letter to one page or less and strike a balance between showing off relevant experience and using unnecessary details.
