How does Sezzle make money?

By Zippia Team - Feb. 1, 2023

Sezzle makes money through merchant fees and late payment fees, otherwise known as penalty fees. These are two primarily revenue streams for Sezzle. Here is a closer look at each:

  • Merchant fees

Sezzle makes money off of merchant fees. These are fees paid by merchants to Sezzle. Users of Sezzle do not pay any interest or fees. Sezzle collects 25% of consumer purchases made on its platform from the seller of the product. Sezzle also charges merchants a transaction fee that equates to 6%, plus $0.30 per each completed transaction.

  • Late payment fees (penalty fees)

Sezzle also uses an "account reactivation" fee, as well as a "rescheduling convenience" fee for consumers that don't make payments in the time required. This fee is at a flat rate of $10. Rescheduling convenience fees are applied whenever a user chooses to move the payment to a later date. Sezzle uses a rescheduling fee of $5 per rescheduling request.
