How old do you have to be to get an internship?
In most cases, you have to be 18 years old to get an internship; however, some organizations will allow interns as young as 14 years old. Every organization that hires interns has its own set of guidelines for the age of interns. If an organization has an age requirement, it is typically a minimum age. In some fields, it may be considered unsafe to have children/minors in the workplace, or a company's insurance provider may forbid it.
For example, a 16-year-old may be ill-equipped to handle the challenges of mentally disabled individuals at a care facility or lack the strength needed to perform the required duties at a construction site.
Age is not usually the only factor involved in getting an internship. Some employers only accept interns who are part of an educational program. So if you are not enrolled in a college or high school course, you may not qualify.
