How to find a summer internship

Many colleges host networking events and job fairs where companies can promote their internship programs. You should attend these networking events in the fall months (i.e. September and October).

Next, create a list of possible internship programs you would like to do. Ideally, you should begin applying in November.

Many students apply for summer internships at the start of their spring semester in January, however it can, and sometimes should, be done earlier.

Research companies you are interested in

You should do a fair amount of research on companies you are interested in when trying to get a summer internship. You can do much of this online. Find out if the company you are interested in offers summer internships, what the different programs are, the application deadlines, and any other critical information.

In addition, you can also call a company's Human Resources (HR) department to inquire about possible internship opportunities.

Get your application in as soon as possible

Many summer internships are extremely competitive, so you want to get your applications in as early as possible. This will increase the chance of your application being reviewed early and may increase your chances of receiving an internship offer.
