Is a medical support assistant the same as a medical assistant?

Medical support assistants work closely with patients' physicians, nurses, and other medical staff.

Medical support assistants work directly with patients and call insurance companies on their behalf to inquire about insurance benefits. Medical support assistants are expected to input data related to patients' examinations, medications, treatment, and test results.

Medical support assistants assist both physicians/providers with patient examination procedures and support with exams as needed. They may contribute to the patient database by collecting and accurately documenting information such as height, weight, allergies, vital signs, and patient education needs for review by the physician/provider.

Medical support assistants also help maintain a safe and clean environment under the supervision of the physician/provider. This includes helping go collect and accurately document patient information and provide patient education and information on procedures.
