Should a pharmacist use a CV or a resume?

By Zippia Team - Mar. 26, 2022

A pharmacist should use both a CV and a resume. Using a resume is the industry standard for applying to a corporate pharmacist position. However, a pharmacist will need a CV when pursuing a residency or any clinical or research position, which is not uncommon in this career.

For students and those seeking residency, a CV is a requirement, a must-have. The same goes if you're a pharmacist applying for international, academic, educational, medical, or scientific research positions and fellowships or grants.

It's not unheard of for a hospital position to ask a candidate for both a resume and a CV. So, it's a good idea to lay a strong foundation for both--your pharmacist CV and pharmacist resume.

The focus of your resume will involve primarily relevant highlights from your career, while your CV will be a much longer document, especially as you advance through your career. In many cases, the CV will span 10-12 pages.

In addition to the basic sections of a resume, a CV typically includes research, teaching experience, publications, grants and fellowships, professional associations, licenses, awards, and other information relevant to the position for which you are applying. In contrast, a resume is primarily focused on your work history.
