The main role of a business analyst is to communicate with all stakeholders & to elicit, analyze and validate the requirements for changes to business processes, information systems, and policies. Business analysts are the ones responsible for bridging the gap between IT and the business using data analytics to assess processes, determine requirements and deliver data-driven recommendations and reports to executives and stakeholders.
A business analyst is in charge of understanding a business's continuously evolving needs while providing technological solutions to improve its processes and systems. In this way, a business analyst can be thought of as a link between business and IT departments.
A primary role of a business analyst is to introduce change in an organization. These changes can range from high-level ones (e.g., larger-scale structural or company-wide policy changes) to more granular (e.g., finding opportunities for cutting costs in a particular department. In this sense, a business analyst often acts as a liaison between different departments in the company, finding ways to streamline processes throughout the organization.
A business analyst provides requirements to the IT department to produce this new technological system and also supports the testing and implementation of the system. To achieve this, a data analyst carefully reviews datasets looking for ways to increase efficiency in the organization.
