What should I put on my resume for outside sales?

The entire resume (from the profile summary to work experience to skills section) should show the hiring manager why you would make an excellent candidate. Before jumping in, we recommended using the job description as your guide when determining which of your skills and achievements to focus on.

To get started, you will want to write a strong profile summary. In one to four sentences, touch on who you are as a candidate and what you bring to the table.

For example, "Motivated outside sales representative with over five years of experience works well independently and under pressure. Strong experience cold calling prospective clients, logging information in sales software systems, and meeting key performance indicators."

Next, you're going to want to elaborate on the specific experiences working in outside sales. Like the profile summary, you'll want to convey your experience using real-world examples and achievements and quantifiable measurements of success.

For example, "Closed more than 60 accounts for the organization yearly through email, phone, and door-to-door sales efforts."

If you're just starting your career in outside sales, use the education and certification sections to discuss some of your academic achievements and relevant coursework. Add a skills section that lists the core abilities touched on in the resume.
