Where do 911 operators work?

911 operators work in operations call centers, or in some rare instances, in the police department. If you live in a very small town that has little need for emergency services, operators may work at the station, where they will be around police officers and other police staff.

Most 911 operators work in call centers around other dispatchers. This can be especially beneficial in coordinating relief efforts. 911 operators at these agencies can do a variety of calls. Some only work with one department, such as only dispatching for the fire department. You also might work with any and all calls.
