Who owns Patagonia?

Yvon Chouinard owns Patagonia. He founded the company in 1973 in Ventura, California. Chouinard, a skilled rock climber, started selling mountain climbing gear through his company Chouinard Equipment in 1957.

Great Pacific Iron Works was originally Patagonia's first store and opened in 1973 in Ventura, California. In 1981, Patagonia and Chouinard equipment were incorporated into Great Pacific Iron Works. Then in 1984, Great Pacific Iron Works' name was changed to Lost Arrow Corporation.

In recent years, it has expanded to hundreds of stores in over ten countries and across five continents. It also has factories in 16 different countries. In 2017, Patagonia had annual revenue of $209.09 million with a workforce of 1,000 employees.
