Spectrum is an American telecommunications and mass media company. It has over 26 million customers in 41 states and is the second largest cable operator in the United States by subscribers (behind Comcast) and the third largest pay TV operator (behind Comcast and ATT).
It is also the fifth largest telephone provider based on the number of lines.
Spectrum is a trade name of Charter Communications used to market consumer and commercial cable television, phone, and internet services. The brand was first introduced in 2014; before that, the services were marketed primarily under the Charter name.
Following acquisitions of Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks, these operations also assumed the Spectrum brand. At the time, the company relied heavily on a predominantly coaxial cable-based network. Today, the newer fiber optic service-delivery system provides higher bandwidth speeds.
In 2020, the annual revenue for Spectrum was $8.405 billion. As of December 2018, it had approximately 98,000 employees.
